Our Story
Where we started
Kuki Learning began in 2020 with one goal: to make Cook Islands language and culture more accessible - especially for our people growing up away from home. Founder Charlie Charlie saw the gap firsthand when friends and family came looking for resources… and found almost nothing. What started as simple online posts quickly grew into a digital movement rooted in identity, connection, and aro’a.
What Drives Us
We create resources that are real, relatable, and full of life because our culture deserves nothing less. From flashcards and short videos to workshops and storytelling, Kuki Learning helps people reconnect in ways that feel natural and fun. We do it for the kids who didn’t grow up speaking their reo, for the parents who want to pass it on, and for anyone who feels that "pull" back to their roots.
Where We’re Going
Our vision is bold: to grow a full platform where every Cook Islands dialect is heard, where fluent speakers are empowered to teach, and where our content is created by us, for us. We’re not here to teach from a distance - we walk beside you, learn with you, and laugh with you. The stories shared with us remind us daily why this matters: our reo and culture must not only survive - they must thrive.
Who is Charlie & Tom?
Charlie Charlie
Charlie Charlie is the founder of Kuki Learning and the heart behind what drives Kuki Learning forward. Born in Christchurch and raised between Mauke, Aitutaki, and Rarotonga, Charlie carries with him the voices of multiple islands and the lived experience of growing up between worlds. He’s a storyteller, an educator, and a proud Cook Islander who turned a gap in resources into a platform that now connects thousands. Charlie brings humour, honesty, and aro’a into every lesson - and a deep desire to help others find pride in their identity and confidence in their reo.
Thomas Harrison
Thomas Harrison, known to most as Tom, is Kuki Learning’s right-hand man and one of its most recognisable faces. Born and raised in Aitutaki, Tom grew up speaking Cook Islands Māori and carries his knowledge with quiet strength and humility. What started as a guest appearance on a video quickly became a full-time passion. With his calm energy and quick wit, Tom helps bridge the gap for learners who want to understand not just the words, but the meaning behind them. He is, as many followers would say, "the vibe."
